Scotch

Its been a bountiful time for scotch. Acquisitions in the last couple weeks:
Glenrothes 85 - haven't opened the bottle yet. When I do, I'll let you know. (Sold by vintage, not age. Bottled in 2005.)
Glenrothes 91 - Candy like. Sweet. Vanilla & caramel tones. Very smooth. (Same deal as the 85. Vintage, not age. I haven't looked up this ones bottling date yet.)
Laphroaig Quarter Cask - super peaty, a lot of oak. Pretty tasty. Very definitely an Islay.
Glenkinchie 10 year - Smoke on the finish with a bit of fire. A bit fruity - maybe apple or pear - but muddled.
Glengoyne 10 year - A bit sour. Tones of apple and cherry. Clean, not smokey. One word description? Tart.

These get added to my existing bottles of:
Lagavulin Distillers Edition
Glenlivet 12
Cragganmore 12

Suggestions for good additions are welcome.

Amazon Fresh Confusion…

Peacocks, Giraffes and PENGUINS!

The member preview for the new penguin exhibit happened today at Woodland Park Zoo. I was there and took some photos and got a couple short video clips. Its very exciting. And has my name on it.

My photos are at 2009 - Penguin Exhibit Member Preview

The zoo has some info about the exhibit here, which includes some nifty information about the things they're doing to try and make the exhibit as environmentally friendly as possible:

Website news

So website news. I've migrated http://www.thegentootux.com and http://www.wwtsl.com to a VPS server so they're no longer served out of my apartment. Thats a really good bit of news.

They last moved from my OSX server to a Linux server back in December. Apparently around that time I managed to break the FeedWordPress plugin which syndicates this blog onto the website. Some error message about fopen() not working. That was fixed by updating a php module. Pain in the rear, but it worked.

I'm still looking for a good plugin to integrate PicasaWeb into the site. And a non-default theme that I like. Though it may be that at some point I just make one myself. I've started that a couple times but I dislike doing web interfaces.

Anyways, things should be back to normal, or at least mostly.

Ireland Trip Return

Back from my trip! Lots o' fun. I've got a Google map I put together of some places I went.

I also have some photos that I've geotagged as best as able and started to caption. Those are here.

Traveling

A list of travels I want to do before I forget them...
1) Ireland (actually doing this one in March.)
2) Across USA by train (Seattle to Washington DC or New York)
3) Across Canada by train (Vancouver to Halifax)
4) Other European nations: Scotland, Portugal, Germany, Poland
5) Antarctica/New Zealand
6) Japan

Obviously not a "do in one year" type list. But a good start.

Microspeak that annoys…

"Asks" is NOT a noun. I don't care how bad your English is. You don't have "Asks". You have questions. Question is the noun. Ask is the verb. And no, you may not ask a question.
